Go West, young man

Stockholm has been one of my favourite cities as long as I can remember. Although close to Helsinki it’s very different: buzzier, more international, trendy and abover all – more caffeneited.

During the last year I’ve visited Stckholm three times, every visit being more or less related to coffee. First visit that involved coffee was last summer when I and my girlfriend were coming home from our InterRail trip. That’s when I first visited Johan&Nyström‘s concept store and a few other great cafes including Espressino (which, alas, isn’t good at all anymore but seeing their monster 5-gruppo Linea is still worth the visit if your nearby) and Mellqvist.

This February we had some 7 hours times and a mission: to visit all the coffee places in town. The result was a lot of great, even amazing coffee and far too many shots of s’pro, though very good all of them.

Drop Coffee

The latest trip wasn’t just leisure – Johan&Nyström having invited us, me and Niki, over to give a hand with the Swedish Barista Championships we also had to do something else than just drink coffee! An amazing experience, I learned so much new by tasting new coffees, watching the competitions and meeting and chatting with new people. Nonetheless, probably the best thing was that I got a summer job as a trainee barista at their concept store in Södermalm.

This is first time when I get to work behind the bar on daily basis and I’m really looking forward to it. There’s so much more to learn in Stockholm than in Helsinki that hopping across the archipelago was really the only option for me. I promise to keep you up-to-date about what’s happening in the vibrant city of Stockholm.
